My Roland KR7 simply can't compete in the upper registers. A part of the sound is sampled from real pianos and a part physical modelling. But as far as I know, Truepianos is hybrid. It's more artificial, this deep subs and the release sound is completely different and IMO Truepianos sounds there more like a real piano. I was rendering a Chopin piece last night, and there is a high octave in the melody using E7 and E8 - E8 sounds like music, and not like a toy. But IMO Pianoteq sounds not very good in the lower range. By simply changing the unison width, I can achieve a honky-tonk piano sound - not many other systems/samples can do that. However, that being said, one can easily adjust the sound for less brilliance. I can't vouch for this, and there may be some truth in it - the Pianoteq sound was developed to imitate a hign end grand piano, and although this is the sound I want and use as a soloist, it may be too dominant as a background sound. There is a Pianoteq user on the PT forum that claims that he loves Pianoteq as a solo instrument, but that it doesn't "fit into a mix" too well. You are right it depends on not only what you want, but may be different depending on the use from time to time, i.e. ![]()
